I consider this our best-looking of the first 50 strips. The original title was “Toyz ‘n the Hood” but I suggested “Spanked Woody,” and we couldn’t pass up an opportunity to make fun of Woody’s name.
An interesting story: When Jon and I were 8 years old, Jim Carrey’s “The Mask” came out to theaters. If you remember, the bad guy says “Easy, you’re giving me a woody,” when he’s getting frisked by the police. We had no idea what that meant, but we thought it was funny.
So funny, that when “Toy Story” came out a year later, Jon randomly shouted out “Woody gives me a woody!” It was innocent, because he had no idea what he was talking about, but if you were within earshot you’d think that he was a burgeoning gay 9-year-old with a doll fetish. Which is exactly why he got in trouble with my mom, who told him to never, ever say that again.
